Governor Christie: Decision On Presidential Run Coming Soon
By Ian Bush
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After Jeb Bush makes it official next week, there will be 12 Republicans in the race for the White House. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could make it a baker's dozen -- but he insists he still hasn't made up his mind.
If he's to become 'candidate' Christie, he'll let us know in the next few weeks.
"We're still eight months away from anybody voting," said Sunday on CBS' Face the Nation.' "So, let's everybody take a deep breath. We'll all be fine."
But Christie in the early voting state of New Hampshire sounds like he's in. Take his resume reminder on national security:
"Of all the people who are engaging in this national conversation right now, I'm the only one who's actually done this," the governor said. "For seven years, I was the U.S. Attorney in one of the places where there's significant terrorist activity -- in New Jersey and the New York/New Jersey area."
Christie called "grandstanding" what Republican presidential candidate Senator Rand Paul did to kill the part of the Patriot Act that allowed the government to collect our phone records in bulk, something the governor says has helped keep the country safe from terrorists for more than a decade.
Christie promised he'd crack down on states that have legalized marijuana, and said the war on drugs and addiction has been a "failure."
"This is a disease," Christie said, "and we need to give people the treatment they need to get better."
