Government To Ease Way For Disabled Airline Passengers
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators say they're issuing new rules aimed at making flying easier for passengers with disabilities.
A rule issued Monday by the Department of Transportation requires airlines to make pages of their websites with core travel information and services accessible to the disabled within two years. Within three years, all of their web pages must be accessible.
Airlines and airports will also have to make ticketing and baggage-tagging kiosks at U.S. airports accessible to the disabled.
Another rule gives airlines more flexibility in how they transport manual, folding wheelchairs onboard, making it possible for them to carry up to two wheelchairs in the cabin.
The department also fined US Airways $1.2 million for failing to provide adequate wheelchair access to passengers in Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C.
