Gov. Wolf Says He'll Try To Get All Horses Pulling For Success of Pope's Visit and DNC Convention

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf sees next year's Democratic National Convention as an opportunity for Philadelphia, and the Commonwealth, to shine.
Now that the Democrats have settled on Philadelphia as the site of their 2016 nominating convention, Wolf says he'll do all he can to help it go smoothly. He said he hopes to sell the event to the Republicans who control the state legislature as good for economic development.
He notes the precedent, when the Republicans came to Philadelphia.
"In 2000, I think the Ridge administration worked hard to promote that and got good bipartisan support for bringing this to Pennsylvania, and I'm hoping that I can get the same kind of bipartisan support," Wolf said today.
Between next year's convention and the visit by Pope Francis this September, Wolf expects an economic boost to the region and the state as a whole.
"The pope's visit is going to bring over a million people to Philadelphia, and the Democratic National Convention will bring lots of people -- millions and millions and millions of dollars. These are two great things for Pennsylvania," the governor said.
Wolf also pledged to assist in private fundraising efforts.
