Gov. Wolf Embraces Challenge Of State House Vote On Tax Proposals
By Tony Romeo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Governor Tom Wolf said Monday he's pleased to have the chance to put his tax proposals up for a vote in the legislature.
With Pennsylvania now in its fourth month without a budget, Governor Wolf held a session with reporters at the governor's official residence in Harrisburg, making his case for tax increases that he says are necessary to close a structural deficit and to increase spending on education.
And, he says, he welcomes the offer to put his tax proposals up for a vote:
"I'm taking it at face value. I'm grateful that I've been given the chance to test this… and both the majority leader of the House and the majority leader of the Senate have given me the ability to reach out directly to their members."
The governor indicated he was working on a final tax plan to be submitted to lawmakers, but a spokesman for the House Republican leader said if Wolf's proposal differs dramatically from what the governor proposed last month, GOP leaders will have to reassess the planned vote.
The House vote is scheduled for Wednesday.
