Gov. Corbett, Sworn In At DRPA, Promises Review Of Mission
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) - Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett and five other new members of the Delaware River Port Authority took their posts for the first time today. And Corbett, as the board's new chairman, vowed to keep an open mind on things at the embattled bi-state agency.
Corbett would not take any personnel questions and insists he has no pre-set list of priorities to address.
"We needed to review the core mission. Has DRPA really been serving its core mission, or has it wandered beyond its core mission to the expense, sometimes, of the commuting public?" Corbett wondered aloud to reporters.
And that core mission, as generally defined, comprises running the four bridges it owns and Patco.
While not getting specific, the governor said he planned to be very much personally in charge here, although he added he is fortunate to have good staff to back him up.
And while he promises to work on bringing more jobs to the region, don't read that as an endorsement of the agency getting back in the economic development business. He looks for improvements there from the private sector.
Corbett also plans regular consultations with New Jersey governor Chris Christie on what changes need to be made at the DRPA.
