Gov. Corbett Popularity Continues to Slide Among Pennsylvania Voters
By Tony Romeo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new poll of Pennsylvania voters has more bad news for Governor Tom Corbett as he marks the midway point of his term.
A new Quinnipiac University poll shows more voters continue to disapprove of the governor's job performance than approve, by a margin of 42 to 36 percent.
But Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, says perhaps even more damaging to Corbett is that voters say, by a 51-to-31 percent margin, that he does not deserve to be re-elected.
Malloy notes that even among Republicans, only 49 percent favor his re-election, "and he has no great support in any demographic groups, (including) no great support with women. He's pretty much, across the board, under water."
Corbett appears to not even be getting a bump from his decision to sue the NCAA over Penn State sanctions (see related story), which voters support 43 to 37 percent. By a margin of 43 to 29 percent, most Pennsylvania voters said they still have a favorable opinion of the late Joe Paterno.
