Gov. Corbett Lights Christmas Tree In Pennsylvania Capitol Rotunda

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett presided over his first capitol tree lighting ceremony today.

With a traditional countdown of "3... 2... 1...," the Christmas tree in the capitol rotunda came to life.  This year's special honorees were the first responders who were called into action by the storms of the late summer and fall.

"Nobody asked about politics, nobody cared about race, or creed, or background," Corbett said.  "The only question anybody was asking at that point was, 'What can I do to help?'  You provided in deeds and with willing hearts that we're all in this together.  This is everybody's capitol. This is everybody's tree."

This year's state Christmas tree is a 22-foot beauty decorated with 800 white LED lights and more than 300 handmade ornaments.
