Gov. Corbett Expected To Sign Bill That Will Impose New Regulations On Abortion Clinics

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Governor Corbett is expected to sign a bill headed to his desk that would impose new regulations on abortion clinics over the objections of critics who say it will reduce access to abortions in Pennsylvania.
The bill is the legislature's attempt to address the nightmare at the Gosnell clinic in West Philadelphia, which authorities say, among other things, was responsible for the death of a patient. Just before the State Senate gave final legislative approval to the bill, Allegheny County Republican Jane Orie spoke in favor of the measure.
"I think what has happened at Gosnell is enough death, it's one death too many."

But Philadelphia Democrat Vincent Hughes and other critics of the legislation say it imposes unnecessary new regulations on and requirements for abortion clinics.
"And the problem is, the threat is, that these facilities will close down because the bar and the standards are set so high that they financially cannot achieve them."
Critics say abortion opponents are using the Gosnell case to limit access to the procedure.
