Gov. Christie Tours Jersey Shore Towns For Sandy Recovery Update

NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS) -- Governor Chris Christie today began a tour of New Jersey shore towns, both to rally the troops and to get the scoop.
The governor held forth on a sun-drenched entertainment pier in North Wildwood, saying that while things are better along the shore in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, they are not all better.
"All week I'll be in different places to congratulate people on the great summer that we've had," he said, "and to let people who didn't have a great summer know that we're still in there battling and working for them, to make sure that we can do our job exactly the way they want us to do it -- which is quickly, efficiently, and effectively."
The governor says 99.7 percent of the state's beaches are open -- a better percentage, he says, than in states not hit by Sandy.
Christie says the worldwide images of the storm's devastation have stuck in the minds some would-be tourists, keeping them away, but he says the state's "Stronger Than The Storm" advertising campaign is getting the message out that they're open for business.
