Gov. Christie Says Airports Getting Ready For Ebola
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie says New Jersey's airports aren't yet ready to cope with the growing Ebola crisis, but will be soon.
Christie said Thursday he's concerned about the outbreak, but that authorities are working quickly to put precautions in place. He says the state's hospitals are as ready as they can be.
Newark is one of five airports where officials will soon start screening passengers arriving from the three West African countries hardest hit by the deadly disease by taking their temperature. The enhanced screening is set to begin at New York's Kennedy airport Saturday and at Newark next week.
That comes after the first man diagnosed with the disease on American soil died in Dallas.
Christie says he spoke with the White House Wednesday about expanded airport screening efforts and is confident officials are moving as quickly as they can.
