Google's Next Amazing Thing: Glucose Testing Via Your Contact Lenses

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (CBS) -- Google, the tech company best known for its Internet search engine, is now working on a special contact lens for diabetics.
Diabetics must regularly monitor glucose levels, a process that requires taking drops of blood for testing.
Google is discussing the development of a contact lens that would measure the glucose level in tears.
Matt Petersen, managing director of medical information at the American Diabetes Association, calls the project intriguing.
"The simple fact that a company with that much ability to invest significant resources is involved makes it more interesting," Petersen tells KYW Newsradio, adding a note of caution: "Google is the first to say this is very preliminary."
The company is working with the FDA on early clinical trials.
