Gold Stars And Demerits: Eagles Vs. Cowboys
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Let's have a moment of silence for the Quarterback Controversy Era. It was a fun two weeks.
The Eagles and Cowboys played an ugly, mostly boring, low-scoring, bad football game on Sunday, which the Cowboys won decidedly, taking sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
With that, I will struggle to find the gold stars for this week.
Gold Star - Riley Cooper
This is where we are this week, where one of this week's gold stars is going to Riley Cooper. He led the team with six catches, and 88 yards, and included a great play where he caught the ball about five yards short of the first down marker, trucked the Cowboys player trying to tackle him, and making it to the stick to get the first.
Demerit - Nick Foles
After convincing almost everyone that he should be the full-time starter with a great performance against the Bucs, Foles turned in an equally terrible performance against the Cowboys. He was not the only one who played poorly, but he missed several throws, held the ball too long, and made some bad decisions. Nick Foles single-handedly created the quarterback controversy, and single-handedly ended it.
Gold Star - DeMeco Ryans
With an interception and a sack, DeMeco Ryans helped along a defense that had its best overall game of the season on Sunday. Ryans hasn't played well at all this year, so seeing him get pressure, and create a turnover was a welcome sight.
Demerit - Chip Kelly
It's not Kelly's fault that Foles missed throws, but that 60 yard field goal attempt certainly was.
Gold Star - Vinny Curry
Curry had his second straight game of solid playing time, and made the most of it with a sack. Whatever it is holding him back from playing more (it appears to be his play against the run), hopefully it's being improved on, because every time Curry gets in the game he seems to make something happen.
Demerit - Todd Herremans
Herremans continued his mostly bad season with a mostly bad game.
