Gloucester Township Police To Increase Enforcement On Local Roads Wednesday

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – The Gloucester Township Police Department is stepping up enforcement on some township roads on Wednesday.

The increased enforcement is part of the nationwide "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" campaign, which is designed to draw awareness to safe driving and keep the roads free of fatalities for a single day.

Motorist are encouraged to obey all traffic laws including obeying the speed limit, driving sober, wearing seatbelts and avoiding distracted driving practices such as cell phone use.

Last year in New Jersey, 627 individuals lost their lives in motor vehicle related crashes. This is an increase from 2010 when 556 individuals died. Although New Jersey saw in an increase in fatalities, there was a decrease nationwide to an estimated 32,310 persons killed.
