Gloucester Township Police Collecting Prescription Drugs, No Questions Asked
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Gloucester Township police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have partnered for an upcoming anti-drug event.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, the two will be collecting unused, unwanted and expired prescription medication at the Gloucester Township Seniors Center located on Chews Landing Road next to the municipal building.
Residents can turn in the drugs—no questions asked—between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Gloucester Township police will then dispose of them in a safe, non-hazardous manner to prevent them from falling into the hands of juveniles or ending up on the black market.
The event is part of a national anti-drug initiative meant to combat the rising rates of prescription drug abuse in the country. The most recent DEA-led National Prescription Take-Back Day on April 28, 2012 resulted in 552,161 pounds of unwanted or expired medications being turned in for disposal.
