Gloucester County Unveils New Tribute To All Of Its Veterans
WOODBURY, NJ (CBS) - On this Veterans Day, Gloucester County unveiled a new tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for American freedom. Some 100 sketches now adorn the Wall of Heroes at the County Courthouse in Woodbury.
When this project was first announced a year ago, organizers weren't sure how many faces they could get to match up with their war records. Their service dates range from the Iraq conflict all the way back to the Civil War.
One of those who worked on the memorial is Harrison Township Deputy Mayor Dennis Clowney. He had a request for the few hundred people on hand for this unveiling.
Clowney asked, "Is there anyone else? So that no one from Gloucester County is forgotten and we can get their name on the wall. This is just phase one. There'll be some more pictures coming."
Honoring war dead with a name etched in granite is one thing. Many were quite moved to now be able to put a face to many of those names.
