South Jersey Man Arrested For Posing As Police Officer

HAMMONTON, N.J. (CBS) –- The long arm of the law has reached out and nabbed a man that New Jersey state police say was impersonating real lawmen, trying to pull over drivers on the Atlantic City Expressway.
The arrest came after a three-week investigation into complaints by motorists that, on June 20th, a suspicious-looking unmarked police car had been cruising erratically around the Atlantic City Expressway, forcing cars out of their lanes and trying pull them over to the side of the road.
Today, 53-year-old Kenneth DiLuigi was arrested at his home in Gloucester County. Troopers also impounded his green Ford Crown Victoria, the model long favored by police departments until it went out of production last fall.
DiLuigi is charged with impersonating a police officer and was being held in the Gloucester County jail.
The state police say if you're not sure if the cop who's trying to pull you over is genuine, slow down and put on your hazard lights -- that lets real police know you're not trying to get away. Call 911 and tell them your location and concerns. And stop in a well lit area with people around.
Authorities say most unmarked police cars doing traffic enforcement are driven by uniformed officers.
