Gloucester County Business Donates Swimming Pool To Family With Special Needs
SICKLERVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- The rain held off for workers in Sicklerville who are building a pool for free for the family of Dorothy and Chuck Beck. The couple have adopted and are raising 10 children with special needs after having two of their own.
"We have children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, one has a spinal cord injury", says Dorothy Beck who watched workers installing the $45,000 inground pool in her backyard.
The Becks adopted children, ages 20-months to 21-years-old, can all benefit from water therapy in their pool. And that's where the Pool Store of Sewell comes in.
"I wanted to do something good", says store owner Toni Williamson.
Each year Latham Internatioanl says it builds and donates a pool in three days while training new workers.
Williamson got the Canadian based pool manufacturer to do it this year for the Beck's. Latham's Peter Moran Sr. says it wasn't a hard cell.
"To be able to do this for all these years and takes these individuals and bring them up to adult life is beyond my imagination", says Moran.
Dorothy Beck feels the same way about the donated pool and efforts to build it. She says Winslow Township even waived $800 in permit fees. A four foot fence is required to surround the pool which also has a cover that closes with the turn of a key.
The Pool Store's Toni Williamson says she would love to hear from a fence company willing to join the all volunteer effort.
