Girls Get Less Exercise Than Boys
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Girls may be playing more sports in record numbers, but they still lag behind boys in getting enough exercise. Despite the social, health, and academic benefits of sports, research has found girls not only participate less than boys, but they're also more likely to quit.
One of the key issues with girls and sports is recognizing the large role that social issues play. Most girls need a comfortable environment and if they don't feel welcome as a teammate or have a personal issue with a coach or player, they might shy away from participation. Teenage boys tend to be less concerned about these issues or if they have concerns, they tend to play through them.
One of the goals is to encourage lifelong exercise through participating while young.
