Giannini's Red-Hot Explorers Savor Break Before Visit to Delaware

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Last time we saw the La Salle Explorers, back on December 10th, they were beating Army at Gola Arena. That was their fifth straight win.
La Salle doesn't return to the court until Monday night, when they visit Delaware.
The nine-day layoff between games for final exams is the longest for La Salle since an 11-day layoff in 2007.
Explorers head coach Dr. John Giannini (photo) says there are advantages and disadvantages to having a break like this when you are playing such good basketball.
"We're able to get some rest and take a day off here and there, but we're also able to get back to what we do and fundamental basketball and playing and trying to get better as opposed to worrying about the next opponent or scouting report," he tells KYW Newsradio. "So it's helpful that way. On the other hand, when you're playing well, you would like to stay in a routine."

This five-game winning streak is the Explorers' longest since a seven-gamer back in 2006.
La Salle continues to get it done with defense. They are holding opponents to just 62.4 points per game and 38 percent shooting from the field.
The Delaware Blue Hens are 4-4 so far this season, and Giannini says they have a pair of outstanding players.
"One guard, (sophomore) Devon Saddler, is one of the leading scorers in the country (21.3 points per game). And they have a (junior) big man, (Jamelle) Hagins, who is averaging about 15 points and 10½ (actually 11½) rebounds a game. Anyone who is a double-double guy by average and grabs more than ten rebounds a game is at a pretty elite level."
La Salle and Delaware will tip off at 7:00pm on Monday night in Newark, Del.
