Getting Arrested? There's An App For That
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We've all been there -- OK, maybe not. But when you're getting arrested for civil disobedience, you need to get the word out to people who might miss you -- or post your bail. Now, there's a smartphone app designed to help with that and more 'everyday' tasks.
The hundreds who call Dilworth Plaza home haven't had much use for the I'm Getting Arrested app for Android.
"Here in Philadelphia, we haven't had any arrests on-site or off-site with any of our protests or protestors. It's always been non-violent, non-confrontational," says Chris with Occupy Philly.
But, he says it could happen, so he's recommending the free program.
"It lets the legal team here know, it lets the community here know and more importantly it lets your family and friends know. It's a cool application."
I'm Getting Arrested looks like a normal text screen. You tap out a message for loved ones and lawyers and, when the cops come with cuffs, you hit the bull's eye and out your saved message goes to all on the list.
The app designer used the Wall Street protest as inspiration, but you could use it to get in touch with those occupying your bedrooms: a quick, daily blast text to see when the kids need to be picked up.
