Gay Rights Activists Declare 'National Same-Sex Kiss Day' At Chick-Fil-A
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Just two days after hundreds of thousands of customers showed support for Chick-Fil-A restaurants, gay rights activists and supporters are having "National Same-Sex Kiss Day."
Activists are encouraging same-sex couples to head to their local Chick-Fil-A at 8 p.m. Friday night, share a kiss and post pictures and updates on social media sites.
"I think it's making a point which is they disagree, I disagree with the stated position of the president of Chick-Fil-A," says Malcom Lazin, who is Executive Director of the Equality Forum, which is a LGBT civil rights group.
Lazin says Chick-Fil-A President Dan Cathy had every right to express his opinion, just as gay rights advocates have the right to share theirs.
"We are asserting a first amendment of expression in terms of being able to marry partners of our choice, we certainly wouldn't want to limit Chick Fil-A in terms of their freedom of expression," he said.
The fast food chain, in a statement, says they appreciate all their customers and serve them at any time and they hope to "have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-Fil-A."
