Gas Prices Hovering Near 6-Year Low, Edging Toward $2
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Gas prices are hovering near a six-year low and are likely to remain low through the holidays.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas fell to $2.01 last week, down 61 cents from a year ago.
The figure also reflects the lowest gas prices of 2015, beating the $2.03 mark set at the end of January.
AAA says the average prices should soon fall below $2 nationally. The last time that happened was in 2009.
In New Jersey, prices dropped to an average of $1.93, or 64 cents below a year ago.
AAA credits the downward trend to increased gasoline production and an excess of crude oil.
