Gas Prices Climbing

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Looked at gasoline prices lately?  They're starting 2012 at their highest levels ever.

"In Philadelphia, we're seeing an average price of gasoline at $3.44 a gallon.  That's up 11 cents a gallon just from last week."

Gregg Laskoski, Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com, says you can blame Iran's response to international sanctions.

"If there's just one reason we can point to, we'd have to say it's Iran's threat to close the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf."

Laskoski says gas prices are already at their highest levels ever for early January, and he's predicting by Memorial Day they'll top $4 a gallon around here.
