Garrett Reid's Troubled History With Drugs
By Brad Segall
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Garrett Reid's drug problems were well documented in Montgomery County where his legal problems started in early 2007.
Reid was arrested in February of 2007 for a car crash a month earlier in Plymouth Township that seriously injured the other driver.
Reid was high on heroin at the time of the crash and was later sentenced to 23 months behind bars in the Montgomery County jail.
While serving that sentence, Reid was found guilty of smuggling 89 prescription pills into the prison and was sentenced to two years in an intensive state drug rehabilitation program.
The judge said he hoped the sentence would address Reid's long history of drug addiction. That program included seven months behind bars and then17 months of integration back into society.
He was sent to a halfway house in Philadelphia but later went back to prison after failing another drug test.
