Garnet Valley High School Students Watch Demonstration On Consequences Of DUI
GLEN MILLS, Pa. (CBS) - It was a unique lesson for the senior class at Garnet Valley High School in Delaware County today. State police and EMS officials organized a full-scale demonstration of the consequences of drinking and driving.
Students portrayed the DUI driver and victims in the lesson. Organizers hope the demonstration sinks in because the senior prom is Friday.
The program was initiated by Riddle Memorial Hospital and funded with a grant from State Farm Insurance.
Student Actors tried to make the event seem as realistic as possible.
"Ahh! Please you have to let me out. This can't happen. I never meant for any of this to happen."
Students also heard from a young woman who suffers a permanent brain injury following a dui related crash.
"It was not only really good, but it was an empowering message. It really helps to put across what we should and shouldn't do," senior Jamie Snyder said.
Kevin Lin says the demonstration hit the mark, "it was pretty scary actually."
Everyone participating hopes these students remember it takes only one bad decision to change the course of your life or the life of someone else.
