Gaming Control Board Begins Hearings On SugarHouse Expansion
By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - The Gaming Control Board today begins several days of hearings on Philadelphia casinos, starting with a hearing today on SugarHouse's expansion plans.
Gaming Control Board spokesman Doug Harbach says the panel will hear public comment on SugarHouse's expansion plans this afternoon at the National Constitution Center.
"SugarHouse wants to add a significant parking garage and they want to basically double the gaming floor size. So that's a big project, and it's hundreds of millions of dollars they're looking at spending. So we need to come in and find out what's the impact within the city of Philadelphia."
Harbach says SugarHouse plans to build a multi-story parking garage that would have some of the expanded gaming floor beneath it. He says the gaming board could vote on the proposal as soon as next week.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the board will hold more hearings on applications for Philadelphia's second casino at Lincoln Financial Field (see related story). A decision on that could come toward the end of the year.
