Black Bear Captured After Wandering Around Northwest Philadelphia For 2 Days, Officials Say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A black bear that was on the loose for two days has finally been captured, officials say. The bear was found sleeping in the woods in Roxborough after being shot with a tranquilizer by a game warden.
"The first tranquilizer I had hit him hit exactly where I was aiming," said Warden Tyler Barns. "The only problem is the adrenaline pumped up. Sometimes it takes a little more."
"I looked to my right and did a double take. I can't believe I saw the bear," one person said.
Over the past two days, the bear was seen in East Falls, Roxborough and Andorra.
The bear was first seen wandering along the Manayunk-Norristown rail line in East Falls on Wednesday.
"It was more scared of people than anything. It was trying to get away," said Warden Barns.
Wildlife experts are fairly certain it's the same bear that was spotted in Montgomery and Bucks Counties earlier this week.
The bear was seen along Ridge Avenue yesterday and was also spotted at the nearby Summit Park Apartments in Andorra today.
A few dozen people have gathered in the streets to try to see the bear.
The plan is to take the bear a couple hours west of the city.
