Funeral To Be Held For Slain New Jersey Police Officer
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- Police cars from near and far are streaming into a New Jersey town for the funeral of a slain police officer.
Police vehicles line the road into Lakewood from the Garden State Parkway. They're headed for St. Mary of the Lake Church, where the funeral for Patrolman Christopher Matlosz will take place Thursday.
Several blocks away, bagpipers and drummers are rehearsing.
The officer was fatally shot last week behind the wheel of his patrol car.
So many police officers plan to attend, organizers are having them gather in the parking lot of a minor league baseball stadium more than two miles away.
A 19-year-old from Lakewood is charged with murdering the officer.
A close friend of Matlosz plans to deliver a eulogy asking the slain officer to look over his friends from heaven.
