PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The culinary community of Philadelphia is gathering Thursday night at Fork restaurant for a fundraiser of co-owner and chef Eli Kulp who was seriously injured in the Amtrak derailment this past May.
Ellen Yin, co-owner of Fork restaurant says she couldn't have picked a better day to hold a fundraiser for her business partner, acclaimed Philadelphia chef Eli Kulp.
"A year ago, Mayor Nutter named July 16, 2014, Eli Kulp Day, so we thought July 16, 2015 would be the perfect day to have a fundraiser for Eli who suffered a severe spinal cord injury in the Amtrak 188 accident," said Yin.
Yin says all money raised will go towards medical costs not covered by insurance; for example, if Kulp still can't walk by the time he is discharged from the hospital, he'll have to modify his home to make it ADA compliant.
"Because of the type of injury it is, there's so much unknown and we all want to be hopeful, but we also realize that this is a really serious accident."
