Fugitive In NJ Sex Assault Case Captured In Spain
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man wanted sought for more than 19 years in the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in southern New Jersey has been captured in Spain.
The Atlantic County Sheriff's Department says 64-year-old Alejandro Arguedas-Aranda was arrested Monday and is awaiting extradition to the United States. The former Atlantic City resident is charged with sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment and child abuse.
Authorities say the sexual abuse occurred at various times from March 1984 to March 1985, when the girl was 6 years old and in his care. The charges were filed in 1994 and Arguedas-Aranda was arrested, but it's not clear how he came to be a fugitive.
Authorities had received a tip in March that Arguedas-Aranda may be living in Spain.
