Frequent Flyers Urged To Check Their Miles So They Don't Expire
By Cherri Gregg
Philadelphia (CBS) – The end of the year is fast approaching and for many frequent fliers- it could also mean the end of certain airline privileges.
Perks like first grade upgrades, short cuts at security lines and free baggage check are given to those travelers who hit certain airline benchmarks.
"Each year you need to qualify just to be eligible for these special benefits."
Randy Petersen works for milepoint.com. He says most frequent flier privileges expire at the end of the year. This means if you don't meet the requirements by the end of 2011, you could be out of luck for 2012.
"The key levels are typically 25,000 miles, 50,000 miles or 75,000 miles or 100,000 miles. If you are anywhere close to one of those four things, you may want to look around to see what activity you can take."
Petersen says most airlines allow frequent fliers to purchase the miles necessary to qualify as long as they do it before the end of the year. Also, he says if you have a credit card, check to see if your holiday purchases could help you qualify for those precious perks in 2012.
