Free Tote Bags Handed Out In Philadelphia For Earth Day
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Earth Day is Friday and many people may be wondering what they can do to change their lives to make it a little "greener".
A local company is handing out reusable tote bags on some Center City street corners during morning drive to help them out.
Amy Bellcourt works for SCA, a company based in the Cira Center, which places a strong emphasis on renewability and recyclabilty of raw materials. She says street teams will be out handing out the bags from 8:15 to 9 a.m. at 4th and Market, 15th and Market, 30th and Market, and Broad and Chestnut.
"This year, Earth Day is focus is on "A Billion Acts of Green". There really are many, many small things that each of us can do in our daily lives that will help our world become more sustainable."
Including unplugging power cords to cell phones, mp3 players and other electronics when they aren't being charged. She also says many places are holding electronics fairs now and recycle old cell phones, power cords, small appliances, TVs and computers.
Bellcourt says it's a good idea to get those items out of your house so they can be recycled and not end up in a landfill.
