EAST NORRITON, Pa. (CBS) - Just in time for the warmer weather, a local medical facility is offering free skin cancer screenings this week.
Mercy Cancer Center in East Norriton, Montgomery County is offering free skin cancer screenings from 8-11am Friday. Dermatologist Dr. Harold Millstein says more people are getting skin cancer every year, even though the dangers of sun tanning are well known.
"People still go to the beach without sunscreen, go to the pool, lay outside and are damaging their skin. I don't think most people realize that 85-percent of aging of the skin is due to the sun; it's only 15-percent genetic."
He says most skin cancer, if caught early is 95-percent curable and skin screenings are the best way to find them.
