Franklin Square Celebrates 5th Anniversary Of Its Revival
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One of Philadelphia's favorite destinations is celebrating its fifth birthday.
With a big "huzzah," rides on the famous carousel, and presents for other five-year-olds, Franklin Square -- at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in center city Philadelphia -- today celebrated its fifth anniversary since a multimillion-dollar makeover.
"Franklin Square has really been embraced by both residents and visitors alike," notes Amy Needle, president and CEO of Historic Philadelphia Inc., which administers the park now. "And whether you're riding the carousel, playing on our Philly mini-golf, or having an incredible shake, it's one of William Penn's original five squares and we think one of the best."
Allegra Kincaid (riding carousel horse in photo) is 5½ years old.
"I love the ice cream at Franklin Square, and I love playing miniature golf," she said this morning.
