Former Temple University President Peter Liacouras Passes Away
By Dan Wing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A sad day for the Temple University community, as former school President Peter Liacouras passed away Thursday night at the age of 85.
Peter Liacouras is considered the second most important man in Temple University's history, behind only the school's founder Russell Conwell.
Liacouras was the school's seventh president, serving from 1982 through 2000.
Liacouras was honored by the school in 2000 when the Forum at the Apollo of Temple was renamed the Liacouras Center, which Liacouras envisioned as a cornerstone for the university to build around.
A memorial service for Peter Liacouras will be held at Temple's Performing Arts Center Friday, May 20th.
