Former Senator Arlen Specter Released From The Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Former U.S. senator and Hodgkin's disease survivor Arlen Specter is battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Specter's son's law firm says the former senator from Pennsylvania was released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on Friday.
The 82-year-old Specter announced last week that he had again been diagnosed with cancer, calling it "another battle I intend to win."
Specter's 30-year career ended in 2010 after he switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party and lost the subsequent primary.
The statement says Specter is expected to return to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for additional treatments.
Specter has overcome two bouts with Hodgkin's disease since 2005 and also survived a brain tumor.
