Former PSU Students Hope Scandal Doesn't Overshadow The Good That Comes Out Of State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (CBS) - Many affiliated with Penn State don't want the scandal to overshadow the good that comes out of State College. They're hoping a special annual event will be a step in moving forward.
In seven years, the annual War on the Shore event has raised more than $120,000 for pediatric cancer research and awareness.
Now in its eight year, the event takes place Saturday July 28th at Jack's Place Avalon. Patrick McNichol is an alum and founder of the event and expects this year they will exceed their fundraising goals.
"I think that the Penn State community knows that we're bigger than one man and we now have a chance to restore our reputation and we're going to do everything we can to do that."
Tickets for the event, which starts at 5 p.m., are $60 at the door.
McNichol also pointed out that the Penn State dance Marathon called THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the world.
