Former Prime Minister Tony Blair Receives Liberty Medal
Dignitaries and citizens gathered at the National Constitution Center Monday night to see the 2010 Liberty Medal awarded to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
KYW's Mike DeNardo reports former President Bill Clinton, the chairman of the Constitution Center, presented the Liberty Medal to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Blair was honored for his work helping African nations battle malaria and poverty, and for his efforts for peace between Israel and the Palestinians:
"Liberty requires that we respect difference. Out in the Middle East, I see every week that I'm there, what conflict based on difference can do."
The Irish Tenors provided the musical backdrop for the outdoor ceremony. Anti-Iraq war demonstrators have shown up at Blair's recent book signings, but there were no protests on this night.
