Former Philadelphia Cop Sentenced For Stealing, Using Inmates' Credit Cards
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A former Philadelphia police officer was today sentenced in federal court to house arrest for stealing and using inmates' credit and debit cards.
Former 22nd District patrol officer and cell block attendant Charles Jacoby was previously found guilty of stealing and using debit and credit cards from incarcerated individuals between January and April of last year (see previous story).
"The government argued that this was an extraordinarily serious offence involving a tremendous violation of the public's trust and warranted a significant punishment," says assistant US attorney Kevin Brenner.
Jacoby faced a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, but he was sentenced to three years' probation, with the first nine months on house arrest.
Jacoby's lawyer declined to comment on the case.
