Former Pa. Governor Rendell Testifies For Fired Housing Director Carl Greene
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell has testified for a former housing director suing the city of Philadelphia over his firing.
Plaintiff Carl Greene is seeking nearly $1 million in lost wages and benefits, plus damages, after his 2010 firing from the Philadelphia Housing Authority.
In opening statements Tuesday, a city attorney said Greene was fired after a flurry of sexual-harassment complaints — and secret settlements — cost the agency nearly $1 million.
And he says Greene was facing foreclosure, an embarrassment for an agency trying to collect rent from public housing residents.
Greene's lawyer says he was fired over a political feud with board Chairman John Street, a former mayor.
Rendell, another former mayor, says he hired Greene and credits him with vast improvements in the city's public housing stock.
