Former Pa. Governor Discusses Possible Involvement In Buying The Philadelphia Media Network

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Former Governor Ed Rendell talked with WPHT-AM Monday about his possible involvement in buying the Philadelphia Media Network, which includes the Inquirer and the Daily News.
Ed Rendell says he was approached by certain people and asked to put together a group of investors to buy Philadelphia Media Network. While Buzz Bissinger implied it might be a power play, Rendell claimed it was the contrary.
"For me and the people involved in this, this is a case of no good deed goes unpunished. The motive here was a motive to do a good thing for the community, for the region."

And Rendell says to save the Inquirer and Daily News from investors outside the region. As for the possibility of influencing the papers content, Rendell says he is all for setting up some kind of firewall to prevent investors from putting their fingers in the pie.
"Nobody wants to stifle news."
