Former Pa. Environmental Chief Enters Race For Pennsylvania Governor
By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A woman who served in the cabinet of former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell is the latest to join the ever-growing field of Democrats seeking to oust the current occupant of the governor's office, Republican Tom Corbett.
Former Pennsylvania environmental protection secretary Kathleen ("Katie") McGinty says she has quit her job and has already raised the better part of $1 million for her campaign.
And even with US Rep. Allyson Schwartz officially entering the race just a few days ago (see related story), McGinty says she's not concerned about being the second woman from southeastern Pennsylvania in the Democratic field.
"I'm a proud Philadelphian for sure, but I also lived -- and my husband and I raised our kids for the better part of ten years -- in central Pennsylvania," she said today. "And for six years I worked in just about every county."
Besides Schwartz and McGinty, other announced Democratic candidates for governor include two other former Rendell cabinet members, with state treasurer Rob McCord and former US congressman Joe Sestak other possible candidates.
