Former Oregon Duck, Kansas City Chief Compares Andy Reid And Chip Kelly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Geoff Schwartz has the rare experience of playing for both former Eagles head coach, Andy Reid, and current Eagles head coach, Chip Kelly.
Schwartz, now a seven-year NFL veteran offensive lineman, joined the 94WIP Morning Show and talked about his former coaches.
"I loved Coach Reid," Schwartz said on Thursday. "I love playing in Kansas City, I had a great time there the one year I was there. Andy Reid is very positive, he's very energetic. I guess I can see where the play calling kind of gets frustrating at times, but we had Jamaal Charles so we ran the ball I think more than maybe he had in the past in Philly."
Listen to Geoff Schwartz on the 94WIP Morning Show:
Schwartz, 28, was a senior at Oregon when Kelly became the offensive coordinator/QB coach in 2007, a year prior to the Ducks finishing just a game above .500. In Kelly's first season coaching Schwartz and running the offense, his team finished 9-4.
"He brought a new energy and a new, obviously a new offensive system and just kind of a breath of fresh air into the program," Schwartz said of Kelly. "I just remember the confidence that he gave us, just 'cause he's such a confident coach and if you made a mistake there's no repeating it. If you messed up forget about it, let's go. Let's go faster, let's score points, let's just keep going, and going, and going.
"I remember his speeches on Friday night's were always great. I heard he changed a little bit kind of, when he became a head coach, because I know some of the guys that played for him as a head coach. The one year I played with him as the offensive coordinator, we were virtually unstoppable."
Schwartz is fresh off of finishing his first season under Tom Coughlin, 68, who Schwartz called a great motivator and says, "definitely still has it."
Besides comparing his former coaches, Schwartz also compared his NFC East rival teams---the Cowboys and Eagles.
"The Cowboys were more consistent I think, especially offensively," Schwartz said. "Defensively, I think the Eagles were better. I mean, they just had better players and played better as a unit, but the Cowboys just kind of made more plays."
