Former Montgomery County High School Coach Pleads Guilty To Giving Alcohol To Minor

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County judge has sentenced the former girls cross country coach at Hatboro-Horsham High School to probation and community service for providing alcohol on several occasions to a teenager on the team.
24-year-old William Lichtner of Ambler admitted in court that he bought alcohol for a 17-year-old girl, pleading guilty to disorderly conduct and furnishing alcohol to minors, both misdemeanor offenses.
Judge Gary Silow called Lichtner's actions "stupid" and then sentenced him to one year probation and 48 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Heather Levandoski says she amended a corruption of minors charge because of Lichtner's future plans.
"We're hopeful that he's going to go into the military," she says, "and kind of, I guess, do better with his life from now on."
Levandoski says this was a probation case and she didn't want to do anything that would keep him from serving our country.
Lichtner was arrested in June, 2012 after a police investigation that was triggered by the girl telling her guidance counselor what was going on. At the time of his arrest, school district officials said he had passed all the required background checks to be hired as a coach.
