Former Mexican President Vicente Fox On Donald Trump's Wall Proposal: 'It's Stupid'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Mexican President Vicente Fox vehemently attacked Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall across the Mexican border and explained it will do more harm than good to the United States economy.
Fox, during an interview with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, defended using an expletive earlier this week, saying Mexico will not pay for the wall and added Trump has no idea what he's talking about.
"Sometimes you're supposed to use a strong, very descriptive word so that you make your point. I think that Donald Trump has to see with clarity that he's absolutely wrong. Building walls for protection is a conclusion of fear. I don't know what he's fearful about...he even mentioned the Chinese wall, he sighted that example, well I'm sorry to say how ignorant he is about history."
He pointed out that currently there is a greater flow of movement of people returning to Mexico, rather than leaving for the United States, and that a wall will lock them in.
"We have compassion. We have humanism in the way we attend the law. We are not so drastic about it. Let me tell you, today the flow of migration is in reverse. So if he builds the wall, then the Mexicans that are coming back are going to stay there. It's stupid."
Fox also said Trump's threats to companies that he will tax products manufactured outside the US will drive them out of business.
"That's not the way to create jobs. by isolating yourself. If he's going to tax automobiles coming from Mexico with the idea that he's saving jobs for the United States, the only thing that he's going to do is to take Ford Motor Company, GM and Chrysler to bankruptcy again. They cannot compete by manufacturing in the United States."
