Former Hatboro Cop Pleads Guilty To String of Drug Thefts

HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) -- A former Hatboro police officer has admitted in Montgomery County Court that he used his badge and his position of authority to get drugs to fuel his addiction.
John Becker pleaded guilty this morning to possessing and stealing drugs, guns, and cash from the department's evidence locker between late 2009 and early 2011.
Authorities say he also coerced drug informants to purchase drugs for him on the street.
The judge deferred sentencing until a background report on the 43-year-old Horsham man is completed.
Pennsylvania deputy attorney general John Flannery Jr. says he will be looking for state jail time for Becker.
"I think it's the ultimate betrayal of the badge that is so heinous in this case," Flannery tells KYW Newsradio. "Becker can't be treated any differently than any other person...any other common criminal."
Becker remains free on bail and could be sentenced to dozens of years behind bars. He was suspended from his position with the police department in March of last year, and he resigned two months later (see previous story).
