Former Governor Rendell Provides His Pie-Tasting Expertise to Manna Fundraiser

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the folks from Manna, the Philadelphia-based anti-hunger organization, were out in full force with their annual "Pie-in-the-Sky" fundraiser.
Today, at the Bellevue, at Broad and Walnut Streets, former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell helped kick off "Tasting Week."
"They have something called the Sky Pie, which is a cheesecake with chocolate stripes -- it's out of this world," Rendell said after a ceremonial tasting. "And their pecan pie is as good as any I've ever tasted."
Those passing by were also invited to taste for themselves.
Manna executive director Sue Daugherty says the six-week bake sale raises about a quarter-million dollars for the nonprofit organization.
"Every month we're serving 65,000 meals to over 750 individuals battling life-threatening illnesses, all here in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties," she noted.
The last day to order a pie is the Friday before Thanksgiving.
