Former Flyers Defenseman Larry Zeidel Dies At 86
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Larry Zeidel passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 86, the team announced.
Comcast-Spectacor Chairman and Flyers founder Ed Snider gave the following statement in remembrance of Zeidel:
"While Larry Zeidel really only played in our inaugural season, he helped define Philadelphia Flyers hockey," said Snider. "He was a tough son of a gun on the ice and a terrific fighter. He was a colorful guy and he was that way his whole life. It's a sad day for our team and we're really going to miss him."
Zeidel played parts of five seasons in the NHL with Detroit (1951-53), Chicago (1953-54) and his final two seasons with the Flyers in 1967-68 and 1968-69 where he recorded a total of 11 points (1g-10a) and 74 penalty minutes in 66 regular season games.
