Former Bernie Sanders Supporters Demand DNC Host Committee Open Up Its Books
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Democrats, including some former Bernie Sanders volunteers, want major changes at the top of the committee planning the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia later this month.
Members of the group called Reclaim Philadelphia want the DNC Host Committee to immediately release its financial documents, including its list of donors.
"We want to call attention to the corrupting role of money in politics," says Reclaim organizer Alex Nagle.
The group is also demanding the resignations of three host committee leaders: former Governor Ed Rendell, Comcast Vice President David Cohen and Independence Blue Cross head Dan Hilferty.
"We think they are very ingrained in the machine of lobbyists influencing policy," says organizer Xelba Gutierrez.
The group of about 20 marched and chanted through Center City, delivering their demands in writing to the three executives.
"You can leave it with me. I accept letters on behalf of Comcast. I have no problem doing that."
A spokeswoman for the host committee had no comment on the demands.
