Forecasters Check Whether Tornado Hit Southern New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — National Weather Service investigators are looking for signs of whether a tornado touched down in southern New Jersey.
They're meeting with Gloucester County emergency management officials and touring East Greenwich Township on Wednesday.
Utility crews are working to restore service to nearly 210,000 homes and businesses in south Jersey after Tuesday's severe storms knocked out electricity to more than 380,000. But downed trees are delaying restoration efforts.
The fast-moving storms, some packing 75 mph winds, thundered through the region.
Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Salem counties are hardest hit.
The Atlantic City Rail Line is suspended, with buses operating between Atlantic City and Philadelphia.
Strong winds ripped off part of the Deptford Mall's exterior. More than 30 animals were left stranded when a pet shop roof fell in in Gibbstown.
